Our Management Team

Michael Roy is the co-founder and president of Phi Home Designs. His passion for woodworking started at a young age. His career began in furniture making at a well known company in Connecticut. He then went on to study and teach boatbuilding. After this he returned to Connecticut to apprentice with an old-school craftsman in house construction and historic renovations. This lead to starting his own custom cabinet shop, which he ran for 4 years before moving to Maine. Once in Maine, he took on the role of Shop Manager at a well known high-end construction company for 5 years. In 2003, he co-founded Phi Home Designs which embodies his extensive background in design, fine home construction, cabinetry, and furniture making. Furthermore, Michael has spearheaded a unique approach to home building that entails working collaboratively with the client, architect, landscape architect and interior designer from the initial concept to completion of the project. Michael resides in Camden with his wife Jill and two beautiful girls, Avery and Eliza.

Jill Roy graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in architecture, and has also studied at MIT and Columbia University's School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Her varied experience over the years in the field of design and construction include working as a CAD operator, as a draftsperson at an architecture firm in the Boston area, as a kitchen designer in Connecticut, and more recently, as a draftsperson for noted Camden Interior Designer Karin Thomas. While initially her work at Phi Home Designs encompassed designing and producing shop drawings for furniture and casework, as co-owner of the company she now oversees special projects.

Kathryn Matlack joined Phi Home Designs in 2005. She has dedicated herself to Phi's mission and is now a partner with the company. While Kathryn's degree is in Chemical Engineering, she quickly realized that her true passion in life was being an integral part of growing small businesses. Kathryn's day to day role covers finance, contracts and her favorite — supporting our incredible staff and hopefully making a difference in their lives. She lives in Camden with her husband Duncan and two wonderful children, Abigail and Elliot.

Will Power is the Project Manager at Phi Home Designs. He is a happily married father of 4, grandfather of 2, and historical vehicle aficionado. He grew up in California; studied Electrical Engineering — Majored in Language, Art History and Math. Will has held Licenses as a California General Contractor, Heavy Equipment Operator and trained in rigorous structural performance standards. Will has operated as a sole proprietor as well as consultant and support staff for several general contractors for over 30 years. Will's strengths are in budgeting and estimating construction projects — as well as designing and implementation of complicated projects.

Rob Troxler, Phi Home Design's Shop Manager, has spent a lifetime devoted to the business and art of woodworking and to the craftsmen aesthetic. With twenty plus years in the custom furniture, fine art, and high-end cabinet industry, Rob brings a wealth of hands-on woodworking know-how, an artistic sensibility and an exceptional attention to detail, deadlines and efficiency. Working in partnership with the client, architect, and the Phi Management Team, Rob and his shop of highly skilled craftsmen create the most beautiful and thoughtfully crafted fine furniture and furniture grade cabinetry available anywhere.

Rosie Curtis holds two Bachelors degrees in architecture. She holds her first degree from the Bartlett School of Architecture in London and the second from the University of Maine. Rosie has been involved in the practice of architecture and construction since 1994, having worked for a local architect and landscape architect, as well as working with builders as a residential designer. Her experience is complemented by communication skills training and project management skills. A native of England, she brings the sensibilities of a European design education, in depth understanding of the construction process and a passion for client satisfaction to her work in Maine. When not at work, she is usually to be found skiing, gardening or hanging out at the beach with her friends and children.

Leslie Curtis grew up in and around Boston. She studied at the Museum School of Fine Arts and Boston University. She lived and worked in NYC and Europe, finally establishing residences in Los Angeles, London and Italy. She traveled extensively passing extended periods of time in Japan, Turkey, Iran, France and the Fiji Islands. Her first design work was in London on a Georgian townhouse in Chester Square which served as home base for ten years. It was decorated in a comfortable American style, mixing old world England with avant-garde London design and New England comfort. She also lived and studied in Rome. She had the fortunate opportunity to be invited to live at the Villa Medici with the great artist Balthus and his extraordinary wife Setsuko. This particular experience gave her an even deeper admiration and appreciation for the beauty of design history and the value of simplicity. The beauty of the Villa Medici and the surrounding gardens had not been compromised by the clutter of modern living and the historical décor was respected by the inhabitants. This was another great lesson in the concept of design and respect for art and history. Returning to the U.S. she worked on restoring and decorating the Mediterranean style villa which had been built in the 1920s by the film producer Howard Keck. Phi Home Designs is proud to have Leslie on board as our full service Interior Designer.

Tommy Uhll is one of Phi Home Design's Project Supervisors. After serving four years in the United States Marine Corps, he focused his energy as a partner in the family construction business in New York and subsequently became owner upon his father's retirement. After 15 years of wearing all the hats that make a construction company successful, Tommy and his family moved to Maine in 2006 and with that he has brought along his construction knowledge, site management skills, and dedication to customer service. As Project Supervisor, he is dedicated to maintaining the Phi standard of quality which stems from a well organized, efficient, and positive jobsite.

Rob Dwelley is a Project Supervisor with Phi. He has been building for over 30 years and operated his own company in both Salisbury, CT and Westport Harbor, MA before moving to Maine in 2001. He has focused on energy efficient structures and has built active and passive solar houses as well as stress skin Post and Beam and most recently full Insulated Concrete Form houses. During those 30 years Rob has also maintained a number of vintage wooden yachts and in his spare time worked for Hurricane Island Outward Bound. He lives in Hope with Sarah who is Director of Hospice for Pen Bay.

Kyle Emery grew up in Swampscott, MA and went on to attend Ohio State University. After working at Bio-Rad Laboratories in Cambridge for several years in engineering she moved to Maine to pursue a job with Ducktrap River Fish Farm, a smoked seafood company based in Belfast. While there for 9 years she managed the customer service team and soon went on to National Sales & Marketing Manager. Kyle has been with Phi since 2006 as office manager where she has brought not only her valued experience to us but her endless energy and creativity.
